Small things

Years ago, Rob and I were discussing what we would like said about us at our funerals. My life aspirations have always been big, if not saving the world, perhaps a continent. Rob's response, "I just want people to say, 'he was sure a good guy.'"

Alma says, "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." As my world has been filled with small things (two small things, mostly), this has become more meaningful. My motto this year is "if you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way." As I have tried to do my small things, I have enjoyed small miracles daily, making life great. So for my first blog, I want to include both the small things that we are trying to do greatly as well as small miracles that I have witnessed.

The Woods Cross summer literacy program that I direct has been going GREAT! It has been really fun and last week it went so smoothly. Last week there was an article in the SLC tribune (with a picture of yours truly on the front of the section). Since then, we have received a ton of children's book donation! The link to the article is:

Rob attended a "Varsity Big Event" that went really well. For scouts, that means that none of his boys were injured, kicked out, or lost (or if lost, they were eventually found). They did flint knapping, repelling, rock climbing, dutch oven cooking, etc.

While he was gone, I enjoyed going to see live Jazz music with the kids and a friend. Another night, my parents watched my kids while I drove out to to Park City to join my siblings and the Bassett for a concert. It was so fun, especially dancing with my family. A small miracle: I was kind of concerned to walk by myself in Park City at night. As I pulled up to park, my brother called me to say he had just parked himself, 1 minute before me. Tender mercy.

One more miracle and then I'll be done. One night we all went to a dollar movie together (Horton hears a Who) and then stopped at McDonalds on the way home. The kids were FABULOUS! No whining. NO WHINING!!! ... just happy kids! When I announced that we would leave the Playland in 5 min., another parent leaned over and said, "Yeah, good luck that that will work." But when 5 min. was up, the kids happily left and got in the car. WOW!

On that very very happy note, I will leave you. May you all accomplish greatness in the small things!

You're amazing! I think having you as a neighbor is a small blessing of big consequence in my life. Sometimes the smallest things end up being the greatest gifts!
