Celebrate good times

Yesterday was our anniversary...eight years! So how did we celebrate? Well, since Rob was up early for work and I worked late, we were your typical married-with-kids couple. Not a lot of time or money, but the love is still there. I vacuumed and cleaned his car. He took both kids to the grocery store (wow) and then made a 7-layer dip and smoothies. More wow.

What makes this amazing is that at 10:30pm, when I called to say I was coming home from work (hungry without eating dinner), I asked him to maybe make a smoothie... and wouldn't it be good to have some chips and salsa. He replied that he already had a surprise.

That is bonding. So there was no romantic dinner, no elaborate getaway, no flowers or balloons. But despite busy schedules, we managed to reach out and show our love. I remember when I was growing up, once my parents celebrated by meeting at McDonalds to share fries. That's love.

Oh yeah, we did do some more bonding at about 2 am, while we sat in the kids room, listening to Kyle breathe at night (listening to the sleep apnea... more about that later), both feeling a little lumpy after indulging in too much dip. Good times.

I love you, Rob

Happy anniversary! You two are the greatest. Val and I had a great chat the other day about celebrating with limitations (kids, being poor, etc.) I think some of the greatest celebrations are these ones because you have to get creative, sentimental, or just enjoy each other. I'm glad you guys had a good day!

One of my favorite memories was when we were in the throes of moving to Singapore. We had been working hard for a month getting our house ready to put on the market, getting inventories filled out (required by the company) and trying to handle busy active kids in the meantime. One day we were so frazzled, but didn't have money or time to leave what we were doing, so we just took our sandwiches, went outside to our next door neighbor's driveway, leaned against their garage door and chatted while we ate our sandwiches. Our kids could have been inside burning up the house, but we didn't care. We just enjoyed the peace and quiet respite for a little while...that's love!!

Happy Anniversary! We are coming up on our 8 year next month too. I told Mary you should join Facebook...seems like everyone we know from Naperville is on there.
